Finally, 3 Points!

At last… a win! Hamilton ended a barren winless run with a 3-1 victory at Dens Park, thanks to goals from Skondras, Templeton and Rojano. Skondras opened the scoring with a back post header, thanks to a Dougie Imrie cross. The Greek fullback has now scored 3 goals this season, and has been a real attacking threat. David Templeton added a second with a fine strike, driven low into the goal. Xavier Tomas was unfortunate as he gave away the penalty. At the time, it did not look like a penalty, and having watched the highlights, it still seems a very harsh decision. Dundee converted the penalty, giving Accies just a one goal cushion. It felt likely to be déjà vu for Hamilton, as we have been in that position too often only to crumble, so the anxiety amongst fans was understandable.  Massimo Donati then foolishly picked up a second yellow card to be sent off, only intensifying the nerves in the away end. With Hamilton down to 10 men, it only made those in red and white on the park mo...

Disappointing Draw for Accies

Image
Another disappointing result on a rainy Tuesday evening as Hamilton followed up their defeat to Ross County in the Highlands with a stalemate at New Douglas Park. Accies hosted Partick Thistle who claimed their first win of the season in their last game, with Hamilton having lost six games on the bounce before the match. Thistle started the game well, but Hamilton looked all over the place defensively. Both managers have criticised Steven McLean after the game, as the under-fire whistle blower seemed to avoid giving any decisions which may have changed the game. Both teams had penalty claims, with Thistle boss Alan Archibald in disbelief that they were not awarded a penalty for a Dougie Imrie handball, whilst Canning felt Hamilton should have been awarded two penalties during the game. One positive to take from the game was the performance of the long-awaited Antonio Raul Rojano. The Argentinian looked to give Hamilton something different up front, and he was able to hold the ba...

A Worrying Weekend

Image
This weekend can only be described as a worrying one for all associated with Hamilton Accies. On Friday afternoon, Les Gray released a statement which announced that the club had been the victim of an “elaborate fraud”, resulting in the loss of a substantial amount of money. The fact that the directors have had to inject funds into the club would also suggest that the situation is particularly grave, with news reports speculating that the sum lost by the club could reach seven figures, which would be extremely damaging for a club of Hamilton’s size. On the pitch, matters have not improved. Another defeat this weekend against our biggest rivals certainly has not improved the mood amongst the fans. Injuries still hamper manager Martin Canning’s team selection, but it seems inexcusable to be constantly looking likely to concede from a set piece. Ioannis Skondras opened the scoring against The ‘Well, with a great strike against the run of play. The Accies had a strong penalty appeal w...

Hamilton Accies vs Rangers: Review

Image
A disastrous night for Hamilton on last Friday saw Rangers stroll to victory on our home turf. The Accies had a great start to the game, taking the lead to make it 1-0 within the first minute. Danny Redmond arrived to score the opener after Wes Foderingham had parried Bingham’s shot into the goalmouth. Unfortunately, the rest of the game did not follow the same path as the first minute. Hamilton struggled to get going, despite the early goal which should have appeased any nerves. Rangers equalised through Declan John’s strike from distance in the 21 st minute, after he was given the freedom of New Douglas Park to set himself for his shot. John struck again only four minutes later to put the Ibrox side in the lead, and Rangers made it 3-1 just two minutes after John’s second. This time it was Candeias who finished a Rangers move, and a long night beckoned for the Accies. Ryan Jack was sent off in the 54 th minute for two yellow cards, which looked like it would give Hamilton a rout...

The Story So Far

Image
The Story So Far Welcome to the first of my blog posts on Hamilton Academical Football Club. This year, I am required to write a blog on a subject which interests me as part of my course. I feel that it makes sense to write it on football, as it is the sport which I have spent the majority of my life watching. Every Saturday, I have followed Hamilton Accies up and down the country, even heading down to England to watch them in friendly matches.  Most people do not understand why anyone would choose to watch a team who are expected to lose most of the games that they play. It is a feeling of real affiliation you get from being associated with the club, and it cannot be compared to the teams with a huge fan base in the league like the nearby Glasgow teams.. As a Hamilton fan, you are often reminded of the poor attendances and the small fan base. After the season started with losing a difficult double-header against Aberdeen, Hamilton bounced back with a 3-0 home win agains...
