Disappointing Draw for Accies
Another disappointing result on a rainy Tuesday evening as
Hamilton followed up their defeat to Ross County in the Highlands with a stalemate
at New Douglas Park. Accies hosted Partick Thistle who claimed their first win
of the season in their last game, with Hamilton having lost six games on the
bounce before the match.
Thistle started the game well, but Hamilton looked all over
the place defensively. Both managers have criticised Steven McLean after the
game, as the under-fire whistle blower seemed to avoid giving any decisions
which may have changed the game. Both teams had penalty claims, with Thistle
boss Alan Archibald in disbelief that they were not awarded a penalty for a
Dougie Imrie handball, whilst Canning felt Hamilton should have been awarded
two penalties during the game.
One positive to take from the game was the performance of
the long-awaited Antonio Raul Rojano. The Argentinian looked to give Hamilton
something different up front, and he was able to hold the ball up and bring
others into play, whilst still possessing a decent amount of pace himself to
get in behind defences. In the first half, he brought the ball down
brilliantly, and hit a shot on the turn which went past the post – but it was
encouraging to see an Accies striker taking a shot – as it is not a sight we
are blessed with seeing very often these days! Scraping the barrel to take
positives from the game, but another positive would be a long awaited clean
sheet which Gary Woods kept last night (the first in 8 games since Dundee at
home).
Canning seemed to view last night’s draw against Thistle,
who were bottom of the league, as a point gained. It is difficult to see how
exactly at the moment, although thankfully a seventh consecutive defeat was
avoided.
